New MWs include U.S. winemakers

London—The Institute of Masters of Wine announced 14 new Masters of Wine, three of whom are U.S. winemakers: Nova Cadamatre, director of winemaking for Canandaigua Winery, owner of Trestle Thirty One in the Finger Lakes AVA and the first female U.S. winemaker to achieve title of master of wine; Yashodan “Billo” Naravane, owner and winemaker of Rasa Vineyards in Walla Walla, Wash.; and Morgan Twain-Peterson, winemaker and owner of Bedrock Wine Co. in Sonoma, Calif. The new members were chosen from around the globe and must sign a Code of Conduct as well as pass the Master of Wine examination that includes theory, practical exams and an in-depth study on a wine-related topic.

New MWs from outside North America include: Julie Chene Nyheim MW (Norway), Alastair Cooper MW (U.K.), Philip Harden MW (U.K.), Sarah Heller MW (Hong Kong), Tim Jackson MW (U.K.), Andreas Kubach MW (Spain), Fernando Mora MW (Spain), Aina Mee Myhre MW (Norway), Catherine Petrie MW (U.K.). There are now 369 masters of wine living in 29 countries.
